Welcome to the NEN
NEN has served the local area for over 30 years, it is a locally owned and managed organisation which has charitable status and is also a company limited by guarantee. The NEN Board of Directors/Trustees is made up of people who live or work in the local area and give up their time to support the organisation without remuneration. The board currently consists of a mix of 11 local residents and three local workers.
Our aim is to produce a positive and informative community newspaper both in conjunction with, and for, the residents of North Edinburgh. We also aim to provide a supported, safe and educational environment to ensure the development and advancement of staff, board, trainees and contributors throughout the life-span of the project.
NEN receives funding from Inverleith and Forth Neighbourhood Partnerships (Fairer Scotland Fund) in recognition for the work it does in meeting the areas employability and health inequalities objectives. The remainder of our revenue is generated through advertising and sponsorship.
Distribution
14,500 newspapers are printed every month with an estimated readership of around 35,000. Distribution is carried out by professional company, Premier Delivery, and is monitored monthly through random phone calls to around 200 homes in North Edinburgh, at the moment penetration is at around 95%. NEN is delivered door-to-door throughout all of EH4 4 and to areas within EH4 3, EH5 2, EH5 1 It is expected that bulk drops will be extended to cover all of Inverleith and Forth wards by June. Bulk deliveries will be made to all public buildings within these wards, including schools churches, shops, community centres etc

Premises
Based centrally in the area it serves, the shop-front premises provide NEN with a higher profile at the heart of the community which encourages the participation of residents who can 'drop in' with news, stories and enquiries.
